This War of Mine Trailer and Update 1.1

War is a horrific and brutal reality in today’s world, and it’s also something that is glamorized on a massive scale in the gaming industry. We’ve all spent countless hours blowing each other up online and then logging off and sleeping peacefully in our warm beds, with full stomachs and no real fears beyond our “first world problems”. But it’s not that easy for the civilians that are almost always caught in the middle of any conflict.

This War of Us seeks to remind us that there is ALWAYS a civilian cost to war, one that is often unseen and unlamented. For example in 2014 there have been over 15000 documented civilian deaths from violence in Iraq, 28 of them just yesterday (source: https://www.iraqbodycount.org/).  We don’t hear about these at all, which is a tragedy.

Watch this moving trailer for 11 Bit Studio’s This War of Mine, featuring a partial interview of Emir Cerimovic, survivor of the siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian war. Then go and grab it from Steam and see how well you can scavenge and survive in a bombed out city. It’s an amazingly moving game with a dark, oppressive feel helped by the perfect art style and music. This War of Mine is absolutely incredible, and has had me hooked from the first time I played it. Now, with the addition of new locations and characters in Update 1.1, it has moved from strength to strength.

This War of Mine is currently available on PC via Steam (on sale now!).
