Xbox One and PS4 storage functionality detailed

A few small details have surfaced in regards to storage functionality for the upcoming next-gen consoles:

Xbox One:

  • You won’t be able to use an external hard drive for anything at launch. This will be patched later, and it will let players put game installs and downloads on one.
  • The internal drive on Xbox One cannot be replaced.

PlayStation 4:

  • You cannot install games onto an external hard drive. No word on whether that’s going to be changed later.
  • The internal drive on PS4 can be replaced.

Nothing too earth-shattering, this is essentially the same as it stands with the current gen systems. It is disappointing that Xbox One’s will be missing a core feature upon launch though, thankfully it’s only temporary.

Well it kind of sucks the internal HDD can’t be replaced, you could do so this gen with the 360. They probably did it this way, so there’s one less item to be sold in retail, mainly Gamestop. If the HDDs aren’t sold separately, then eh can’t be sold used. @Jackson2Jermain.
