Stand the Xbox One vertically “at your own risk”

So far Microsoft has only shown the Xbox One lying flat and now we know why. Albert Panello, senior director of product management and planning at Xbox announced in an interview at TGS that:

We don’t support vertical orientation; do it at your own risk.

…it wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both.

Panello also went on to say that “we found, interestingly enough, that 80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox [360] horizontally”.

I would guess a similar statistic applies to the PlayStation 3 as well.

As such, it would hardly appear that this will be a deal-breaker for most prospecting Xbox One owners. But is that untrue? Is standing your console upright important to you? Share your thoughts below in the comments!
