Sony has just announced a new PlayStation Vita model, which is scheduled to launch in Japan on October 10. It features a thinner and lighter design, a 5-inch LCD display, 1GB of built-in memory, an extra hour of battery life, and Micro USB type B support. No word yet on if the system is coming to other countries, but it would be safe to assume the rest of the world will get this new revision in the near future.
Comparison between the current Vita and the new model:
Looks pretty slick! The only thing that would make it any better was if Sony ditched its awful proprietary memory format for a more common type. Regardless I think a refresh will be more than welcome especially if Sony were to bundle this new model with the PS4. The only thing that concerns me is that it’s supposed to have an LCD display while the “old” Vita has an OLED display (which is much better). So I’m wondering if that’s an error since you wouldn’t expect a new product to have inferior technology to its predecessor. I’m it’s probably nothing to worry about right now and clarification will undoubtedly come soon.
