PS3 games may come to PS Vita TV through the cloud

The newly-announced PS Vita TV set-top-box already has a lot going for it: it can play PSP, PS One, and [most] Vita games with a Dualshock 3 (PS3) or Dualshock 4 (PS4) controller, but even more impressively it can stream PS4 games from your console similarly to the hand-held Vita–all for only $100.

However in a round-table interview, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House revealed that the versatile device is “technically” capable of streaming PlayStation 3 games as well:

In the future, SCE will offer games developed for the PS3 to PS4 and PS3 by using a cloud-based game distribution service. Technically, the PS Vita TV can support such games. Therefore, SCE is considering providing PS3 games to the PS Vita TV by using the service in the future.

Now whether or not such a functionality will become reality remains to be seen, but the opportunity is certainly there and no doubt PS3 owners (and non-PS3 owners alike) would jump at the chance to access the massive library of PS3 titles from such a small device.

I almost think they should rename it just “PlayStation TV” at this point given the amount things it can do. Surely when it releases worldwide in the near future you’ll be hard pressed to get a better gaming value for your money.

But what about you? Does this fuel your interest even further in the PS Vita TV? Could this potentially replace a PS3 for you? What feature(s) are you most excited about? Share your thoughts below in the comments!
