The now famous Battlefield 2 (and Arma) mod, “Project Reality” who’s claim to fame was their amazing focus on well, Realism, has announced that they are working on a new project so to speak. The new title will be a free-to-play standalone title and is named none other than “Project Reality 2”. The team announced it via the Project Reality Forums and also included that the pc game will be on the CryEngine 3 engine. If the engine name sounds familiar just look at games such as Crysis 2-3 and FarCry 3. Just take a look below at some of the Project Reality footage and you can judge for yourself how real the game feels and looks.

With Project Reality being such a popular mod and now with PR2 evolving into a standalone game, I can see only a bright future for this series. I am currently downloading the mod myself and am looking forward to donating a few hours of my time to it. I really like Battlefield 2 and Arma 2 and to think they brought the two games together and added more realism gets my military juices flowing. The PR2 team is definitely focused on Realism still due to the fact they said in the forums:
Project Reality 2 (or simply “PR2”) will be a free to play multiplayer FPS PC game, based off of the critically acclaimed Project Reality modifications for Battlefield 2 and ARMA 2. Unlike our previous projects, PR2 will be a completely standalone game that will require no retail game to play. Our mission is to create the most realistic, immersive and demanding shooter within a virtual combat environment, focusing on encouraging teamwork through tactical gameplay.
