Newest DayZ Dev Blog Says Alpha Not Ready

In the latest installment of the DayZ Standalone Dev Blog, Rocket a.k.a. Dean Hall, developer of the mod discusses the state of where the game is and why it is still not releasing an alpha version at the moment. Rocket discusses issues with surroundings being updated while player movement is in effect. They are trying to make items and surroundings update around just the player so that less data is sent to better combat hackers. He also mentions that the weapon customization is being worked on for the M4 automatic and that others will be worked on as well. The focus at the moment though is on the M4 as that will be the weapon showcased. The damage system needs tweaking as well as there is a new “blading” system and it is not functioning properly in the multiplayer system. He also says that stability has been improved but there are a ways to go before the release of an alpha.

As to why Rocket does not want to release an alpha version just yet he said this: “Thats kind of the most important point to make in this development Blog, Everybody wants it to be released and we are really happy with how its starting to look, but until we cover off on the very basic foundations of it, there’s just nothing there to play, nothing there to really enjoy, we feel we are really close to that but we want to take the time that is necessary to deliver on that.”

Despite the bad news about the alpha for DayZ Standalone, there were some positives to take from the dev blog. First, anyone has to be elated that a developer cares enough to make sure the game is working and functioning properly to his/her standards before even releasing an alpha. That shows quality work and good ethics for their product. Second, I noticed a lot of new things while watching the video footage of the blog such as female zombies, zombie speed and attack lunges, melee weapons attached to the rifle and players being held up and stripped of their clothing. They are also working on newer realistic buildings such as police stations and health centers. I am pretty excited as I am a DayZ fan to see how the game develops and how it will play when the alpha is finally released. It seems there is a lot to look forward to.
