Microsoft hints at backwards compatibility on Xbox One thanks to game streaming via the Cloud

If the past couple of months have taught the consumer anything, it’s that cloud computing and steaming information are clearly a goal for all major players in the gaming world. With Nintendo getting the ball rolling with the Wii U’s game pad functionality to Microsoft promising “The Power of the Cloud” with the Xbox One, consumers have had all forms of the technology shoved in their face for quite some time.

Speaking of Microsoft’s Cloud service, it turns out the team from Redmond may have a few other tricks up their sleeve in regards to the service. As reported by The Verge, Microsoft has apparently demonstrated full game streaming functionality to both a Windows Phone and Windows PC. The game in question, Halo 4, is said to be streamed from the cloud service with a latency of just 45ms.

Streaming at low latency is the key to this generation.

This is remarkably similar to Sony’s Gaikai service, a service that is said to be brining backwards compatibility to Sony’s PlayStation 4. If Microsoft gets this feature functioning properly, it would eliminate the Xbox One’s lack of backwards compatibility, and provide even more justification for their push for digital based content and services.

Let me know what you think about the possibility of Microsoft’s Azure Cloud based service brining backwards compatibility to the Xbox One and other Window devices.
