HDMI video capture confirmed for PS4 [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed on Twitter that a future patch will bring along the feature:

It’s disappointing this won’t be available at launch, hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for the functionality to be added. Looks like you’ll have to use the built-in share features until then!

Original article:

Until today there has been wide speculation on the video-capturing capabilities of the next-gen consoles. Rumors have been that protected-HDMI ports would prevent gamers from using capture devices to stream or upload to YouTube on their own, instead being forced to use the [limited] built-in sharing features of each console. However today PlayStation fans can rejoice as it’s been confirmed that the PS4’s HDMI output is unencrypted and will allow unhindered capture of its signal. PlayStation Publisher & Developer Relations Adam Boyes settled the matter this morning:

More options is certainly a good thing, and no doubt the “Share” functionality of the PS4 will still be a great tool to the majority of gamers. However for those who do a lot of YouTube or streaming (like myself!) this is a huge relief and will not impact their creative control one bit. It was also confirmed back in August that the Xbox One will also support capture devices from it’s HDMI port as well.

Does this affect you at all? Are you overjoyed as well? Share your thoughts below in the comments!
