BioShock 2 PC re-released and patched Minerva’s Den expansion available now on Steam

2K Games announced on it’s official blog that BioShock 2 and all of it’s downloadable content, including the Minerva’s Den expansion, are now available for Windows PC through Steam.

Previously BioShock 2 was a Games For Windows Live game. The only way to purchase the Minerva’s Den DLC and participate in it’s multiplayer component on PC was through the GFWL service. When Microsoft shut GFWL down in August, many people wondered about the future of BioShock 2. Thankfully, BioShock 2 will thrive courtesy of Steam and Steamworks.

The Steam version of BioShock 2 will now include the single-player add-on, The Protector Trials and all multiplayer DLC, including the Sinclair Solutions test pack and Rapture Metro map packs. The Minerva’s Den expansion is not included with the retail release on Steam but is available as a separate download. For player’s that already own the boxed version or a digital version purchased outside of Steam, simply plug your existing activation key into Steam to gain access to all of the game’s DLC including Minerva’s Den free of charge. Fans have been screaming for full controller support and tweaks to the multiplayer on the Steam forums for years and I’m happy to tell you your screams have been heard. This re-release of BioShock 2 will take full advantage of Steam services including Steam achievements, Big Picture Mode and full controller support! 2K Games together with developer Digital Extremes have also made some much needed improvements to matchmaking and multiplayer! Player’s now have the option to search for “any game” instead of having to select a game mode, leveling up is quicker and easier and the experience has been “fine-tuned”.

This is great news for fans and I’m happy to see BioShock 2 get the attention it deserves on PC. To celebrate the re-release, Steam is offering a discount of 50% for BioShock 2 (Retail $19.99. Discounted to $9.99) and Minerva’s Den (Retail $9.99. Discounted to $4.99) through Oct. 7.
