Darksiders 2: Argul’s Tomb DLC impressions

Argul’s Tomb adds 2 new dungeons as well as a small side area with a small twist to it. The DLC unfortunately is not that big and really it very short in terms of play length. I was however unable to complete it due to a bug I experienced where what I believe a pressure plate wouldn’t appear in my save file for some odd reason however from what I read about the parts I missed there wasn’t much more beyond what i couldn’t get to.

The two dungeons, both featuring an Icy like frozen over theme similar to the first zone you are introduced to in the game and sharing nearly identical enemy types to me that kind of let me down. I think there may have been one or two unique monsters to this whole DLC. Even the one boss that I was able to fight seemed like a re-skin of another creäture found within the later parts of the game with the ability to summon some skeletons. The dungeons themselves while they introduced some new puzzles they were a lot like the other ones already implemented in the game with a focus on using the Void Walker “portal” item.

The other area of course being the side zone. Unfortunately it took what seemed to me like 0 skill to play as like in the Earth levels you get handed a what I can only explain as a overpowered sticky grenade launcher that however if you don’t use you likely would be slaughtered during the last fight of the area. I’m just happy it doesn’t last too long.

I think the best thing about the DLC might have been the way they implemented it. You go to the menu right after you load your save file up and choose to go to the DLC instead of having to be at a certain point in the story to access it. Like most content in Darksiders 2 it will scale up to your level.

Overall, the DLC did not impress me at all. There was no new mechanics, fights or even, puzzles that made me think anything along the lines of “I can’t wait for the next DLC”. It might have been it was just too small to get me immersed back inside the Darksiders world. However I will say if you really enjoyed Darksiders 2 this does give you more to do for a reasonable price at 560 MS points or $6.99.
