DICE reveals reasoning behind no space battles in Star Wars: Battlefront and more info released

In an interview in the latest Official PlayStation Magazine UK, General Manager at DICE, Patrick Bach, has described the studio’s reasoning behind the lack of space battles in Star Wars: Battlefront.

According to Bach, the developer’s design aims is to keep players within the same environment rather than having them fly off to different areas. In particular, he references about how the game is about the “Battlefront experience” which focusses on infantry combat.

“We want players to stay in the same [environment] – we don’t want players to fly off and do something over *here.* It’s about the Battlefront experience, so we want to keep you in-atmosphere and fighting with the infantry.” – Patrick Bach, General Manager at DICE

In a different interview, this time with Official Xbox Magazine, Bach has also confirmed that while there are some scoped rifles, players won’t be able to aim down the ironsights of their weapons. In the same magazine, design director Niklas Fegraeus has also confirmed a few more details about the game. The game won’t include pre-made classes, instead players will be able to pick their weapons ‘freely’. Likewise, Battlefield’s Squads system also isn’t included but the new ‘Partners’ feature will allow two players to team up where they’ll be able to share unlockables, spawn close by, and see each other on the HUD. These new changes certainly sound like DICE are trying to create a unique shooter and finding ways to make the game feel much different than your average Battlefield title.

Recently EA and DICE confirmed that ATST’s will be playable and released a new screenshot, which you can see below.

Star Wars: Battlefront is due to launch on Tuesday, 17th November for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
