The Last of Us DLC rolling out starting Oct. 15th, SP content coming this winter

Ever since The Last of Us released to massive commercial and critical praise this summer, millions have been eagerly awaiting any news of the additional content Naughty Dog has planned. Today they’ve revealed new multiplayer DLC and confirm that new singleplayer DLC is coming sometime between December and January.

First up, a new pack of 4 multiplayer maps are being released on Oct. 15th:

  • Suburbs features a random dynamic dust storm
  • Bus Depot contains multiple layers an urban environment with wild giraffes in the background
  • Hometown is full of atmosphere: dark, eerie, moonlit, and ideal for stealth play
  • Bookstore has a bi-levl layout that adds a highly vertical gameplay reminiscent of Uncharted

In addition to these maps, over 60 head-items for multiplayer characters were announced. These will range from a Nightmare Mask to a Pigskin hat and will offer players more ways to customize their online appearance. These items will be free for Season Pass holders but will also be available a la carte. Naughty Dog says these items begin rolling out after the map pack.

But as many know, singleplayer DLC is on the way for The Last of Us. Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli shared this update:

When we initially talked about the Season Pass we mentioned making our first ever story-driven single player DLC. This is an ambitious story with strong ties into the narrative of The Last of Us. We just wrapped up a long casting process for a new character, and we’re starting our performance capture shoot next week. The single-player DLC is currently planned for release around the December-January timeframe.

He also added that the header photo is related to the singleplayer content.

The third DLC drop will also be multiplayer focused and is arriving in the first half of next year. We’ll be hearing more about as soon as ND has “worked out those details”.

If you want to save over 75% on all 3 DLC sets you should consider buying the Season Pass for only $19.99 on the PlayStation Store or at your local GameStop retailer. For what you’re getting I’d say that’s a bargain.

I’ve been an adamant supporter of the multiplayer in The Last of Us, as have many. If you haven’t given it a proper chance yet I highly suggest you do as it’s one of the most fun and original MP offerings I’ve played in years. These new maps look fantastic and like the rest of you I am unbelievably excited for additional story content. Between this, GTA Online, Battlefield 4, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Watch_Dogs I’m going to lose a lot of sleep for the foreseeable future. Not that I’m complaining.

Which DLC are you most excited for? What would you like to see in the third MP DLC?
