Report: Batman: Arkham Knight ‘Batmobile Edition’ cancelled

It looks like the Batmobile Edition of Batman: Arkham Knight may have been cancelled if a user on NeoGAF is anything to go by.

The Batmobile Edition wasn’t cheap, meaning that the £170 purchase would surely only be for diehard fans. It would have came with the game, a 80 page art book, a steelbook case, a DC Comics comicbook, a skin pack, and most important of all, a Batmobile statue. According to the user on NeoGAF, they’ve received an email from UK retailer GAME informing them that Warner Bros. have decided not to release the edition. In particular, the email cites ‘unforeseen circumstances that greatly compromised the quality of the Batmobile’.

GAME will offer affected users the Batman Red Hood Edition with a £20 discount. There doesn’t seem to be any indication that the cheaper Limited Edition at £90 has been affected. That edition would have been a good replacement considering it includes the same content except for a Batman memorial statue instead of the Batmobile, but given its limited nature, it’s likely to be out of stock. According to others users in the NeoGAF thread, it seems that other retailers have also notified customers of the cancellation.

It’s really surprising that they’ve seemingly cancelled the edition so close to launch with the game releasing on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC next Tuesday, so it must have been a big problem to decide not to charge people the full amount before dispatching.
