Oculus Rift to Focus on PC & “Next Gen” Mobile Devices

According to EDGE , The developer of the Oculus Rift wants to release the Virtual Reality headset to the public next year with a launch price as close to $300 and with focus on PC and “Next Gen” Mobile Devices. The idea of bringing Oculus to consoles was politely shrugged off by CEO Brendan Iribe and he believes that PC and mobile devices in particular is where VR’s future lies. Iribe states that “I love consoles but internally we’re a lot more excited about where mobile’s going to go, and being able to plug it right into a next gen cellphone,” and “It’s the innovation, and how fast cellphones are now improving – where we’ll be with the next Galaxy or the next iPhone compared to where consoles are. Those things are almost doubling every year, compared to a console that’s just stuck it out for eight years – it just makes us very excited. There’s a lot of improvements that can be made on the hardware side for VR that no-one’s doing yet because it’s a new thing. The mobile rate of innovation is going to be able to make a lot of those improvements.”

Iribe goes on to talk about a lot of factors that the Oculus Rift has to improve on before it’s release such as form factor, HD motion blur elimination and timing. He wants to wait on release dates because as a team they want the release to be right. Iribe also goes on to say that he knows there will be other VR headsets released and he is very excited about the possible improvements that will be made in the future of the VR realm. As seen below the Oculus Rift looks like a very innovative and fun tool to add to our collection as gamers and I personally can’t wait to see it’s potential. To be able to actually feel and move around in imaginary worlds and realms and feel like you can really be a hero of some sorts is uplifting and i’m sure gamers out there will jump at the chance to do so. Going to be interesting to see how it all turns out.
