Daniel Radcliffe reportedly in talks to star in upcoming GTA BBC Drama

Daniel Radcliffe, most well-known for his role as Harry Potter in the fantasy film series, is reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto drama from the BBC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The report states that if talks go well, Radcliffe will play Sam Houser, one of the co-founders of Rockstar Games. The drama story will highlight how the minds behind one of the game industry’s biggest franchises rose to the top, with particular emphasis on the battle between Miami lawyer Jack Thompson. For many years, Thompson has been a leading advocate against violence and sex in video games, with Grand Theft Auto a big target of his. In a dispute that goes back 12 years, Thompson has repeatedly publicly criticised the game and linked it to numerous real-life crimes. The actor who will play him in the upcoming drama is yet to be cast.

Directed by Owen Harris, who has previously directed episodes of the Misfits and Black Mirror series’, filming on Grand Theft Auto will begin on April 20th. Based on David Kushner’s Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto book, James Wood penned the script while Jim Spencer and Mark Hedgecoe will be credited as executive producers.

First announced back in March, the drama is part of a wider initiative designed to help push digital towards young people in the UK, thus aiming to reduce the shortage of technical and programming skills.
