Bill Paxton in talks to play Jack Thompson in Grand Theft Auto BBC drama

Only a week ago we reported that Daniel Radcliffe was set to star in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto drama, and there’s now been news of another casting…

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Paxton is in talks to star opposite Radcliffe. If talks are completed, Paxton will play Jack Thompson while Radcliffe looks set to take on the role of Sam Houser, one of the co-founders of the studio behind Grand Theft Auto. The drama, which is currently in production at the BBC, will tell the story of Rockstar Games’ battle with the Miami lawyer (Thompson). A critic of violence and sex in video games, Grand Theft Auto has been a longstanding target of Thompson’s.

Paxton has starred in a bunch of blockbuster films, including Apollo 13, Aliens, and Titanic. Most recently he played a role in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television show and 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow. Paxton made his video game debut early this year when he joined Advanced Warfare’s Exo Zombies mode as a playable character.

The drama will be directed by Owen Harris (Misfits, Black Mirror), with filming set to begin on Monday. The script was penned by James Wood and based on the Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto book by David Kushner.
