Steam’s Popularity Rising Fast

Steam client has been around now for ten years. The platform developed by Valve has made it’s mark on the gaming industry with over 3000 games spanning across Windows PC, Mac and Linux. The company announced a huge number that is reflective of that mark in that Steam has over 65 million registered users worldwide. That growth is a thirty percent increase from just a year ago. It most definitely can be attributed to the way Valve has always made Steam very easy to use and has made significant changes that have made gaming on Steam much better than year’s past. Over the past year, Valve has introduced several new features to the Steam platform, including the library-sharing service called Family Sharing, Steam Trading Cards, Steam Early Access for game developers and support for more Linux titles. The most recent update and exciting addition to Steam comes in 2014. Valve is working to launch its Steam Machines, the company’s move to bring its games to the living rooms space, as well as the Linux-based Steam OS software.

“The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user’s experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience,” Valve co-founder and president Gabe Newell said in a press statement. “As the platform grows, our job is to adapt to the changing needs of both the development and user communities. In the coming year, we plan to make perhaps our most significant collaborations with both communities through the Steam Dev Days and the Steam Machines beta.”

With all that is going on with Next Gen consoles and the Hype that surrounds them, its refreshing to see Valve still able to be creative in it’s own way, build upon what it started and grow as a company because of it. All the while still bringing fun and entertainment in new ways to gamers across the globe.
