Rumour: Next Assassin’s Creed game coming 2017, Watch Dogs 2 set in San Francisco

There always comes a time when Kotaku leak some big Ubisoft news and just 3 months after London-based Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate was released, that tradition continues. According to Kotaku, sources indicate that the next title in the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be skipping this year. This follows a rumour on 4chan earlier today where a supposed developer generated the possibility of a skipped year while also claiming that the game is set in Egypt, will be a complete ‘revamp’, takes elements from The Witcher, features the return of horses and boats, and is being developed by the team behind Black Flag.

Using their own sources, Kotaku have confirmed that they’ve been hearing similar speculation over the past few months. In particular, Kotaku believe that the game is codenamed Empire, takes place in ancient Egypt and indeed won’t be out until 2017, a decision based on Unity’s disappointing launch. Multiple sources have corroborated the setting, while one did also reference ancient Rome. With the game looking more than a year away, we’ll probably be waiting a while for some solid information as to whether this speculation is true or not. Fans won’t have to wait long for their Assassin’s Creed fix however, as a film adaptation will be released in December.

Within the same report, Kotaku also say that there’s an indication of Watch Dogs 2 coming this year with it being set in San Francisco.

As always, take these rumours with a pinch of salt until official news arrives!
