Metal Gear characters more “Erotic”

Hideo Kojima (creator of Metal Gear series) has recently tasked Yoji Shinkawa who is the art director for Metal Gear 5 to make the characters appear “more erotic”.  Shinkawa’s goal is to create characters with incredible depth in order to “stand the character out”.  He then states that the goal of this “is to make [you] want to do cosplay or [for] its figurine to sell well”.  Metal Gear usually has a well written script and plot that gamers can ride while gripping the edges of their seats.  However, while in depth characterization is a really good thing, outrageous or unbelievable outfits that show a little more skin can take away from a games overall experience and even taint the story.  Imagine if “The Last of Us” did something like this.  You play as Joel in post apocalyptic America while young Ellie accompanies you in a skimpy bikini, or vice versa (maybe Joel is in a banana hammock the whole time).  Could you ever take the game or its characters seriously?  While these examples are a bit extreme (and humorous), my point remains the same.  The question is whether Metal Gear is, or has been the type of Game that could pull something like that off without taking away from the solid story which Metal Gear usually delivers.  Until we see exactly what Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa mean by “erotic” and how they deliver that, we’ll just have to hope for the best.  Leave your thoughts below.

I believe Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us and many others have proven you don’t need erotic characters to get people to cosplay as them. Look at how many there are of Bioshock’s Elizabeth already. @Jackson2Jermain
