Microsoft announces 1TB Xbox One Console and new Wireless Controller

After some recent leaks, Microsoft has confirmed some new editions of the Xbox One, including a 1TB console and a new controller design.

First of all, Microsoft has announced a new Xbox One 1TB console. As the name suggests, this bundle will come packed with a 1TB hard drive, which is double the size that launched with the system, and has a new matte finish. Certain special edition consoles released previously have included a 1TB drive, but going forward we imagine it will become a staple size. Of course, the console will still support external storage, so there’s plenty of ways to find the right amount of space to match your storage needs. The bundle will include Halo: The Master Chief Collection for a limited time in select regions, as well as a new controller (which we’ll discuss next). The 1TB consoles are due to arrive in United States stores from June 16, with other markets to follow later in the month. It will be available at $399 ERP, while the 500GB console has had its price permanently cut to $349.

A new Xbox One Wireless Controller has also been announced. As previously outed, the controller will finally include a 3.5mm stereo headset jack, reducing the need to use adapters for devices which didn’t support Microsoft’s proprietary port. Microsoft says that players will be able to adjust the headset volume, mic monitoring and voice/game audio balance through the console’s Settings menu, and that the quality of audio and maximum volume has been improved and increased. The new port is separate from the original, so players can still opt to use adapters for the proprietary port. On top of the audio, the bumpers have also been refined, allowing for a more consistent performance, while controllers can now also been updated wirelessly without the need for a USB. The controller can be purchased as a standalone purchase via two design options: standard black or a new Special Edition Covert Forces design.

Last of all, Microsoft has announced that an Xbox Wireless Adapter will be available for Windows beginning this fall. With this adapter, players will be able to use their Xbox One controllers wirelessly on systems such as Windows 10 PCs, laptops and tablets.

E3 is just under a week away, so sit back and stay tuned for all sorts of news and reveals from Microsoft as well as other attendees!
