Fable Legends free-to-play on Xbox One and PC

Microsoft and Lionhead Studios have today announced that Fable Legends will be launching on Xbox One and PC as a free-to-play game. A release date has yet to be announced, but the game’s expected to launch sometime this year.

At launch, players will have access to ‘Season One’ content which features a traditional linear RPG storyline and side quests. Players will be able to control one of four hero characters, with the other three being controlled by AI or a player (Xbox One and PC players can play together), or a villian, which will allow them to command different creatures. The game’s available heroes will be rotated every two weeks but players will be able to purchase heroes so that they can be selected whenever via in-game currency (earned from quests) or real money. Likewise, players can also purchase creatures which are controlled by the player-controlled enemy.

All areas of the game world will be open to access and there won’t be a limit to play time or quests. Things that cannot be purchased include XP and resources such as potions, while any items that directly affect gameplay can be earned through chests and loot. Following launch, the developers have big plans for free updates which will include new quests, heroes, creatures, and items.
