Evan Daugherty reported to be penning the Tomb Raider film reboot

Screenwriter Evan Daugherty is set to write the Tomb Raider film reboot according to Deadline, replacing Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Marti Noxon who was announced in 2013.

There have only been two films made based on the Tomb Raider videogame franchise, one released in 2001 and the other in 2003, both of which starred Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. It was announced in 2011 that GK Films had acquired the film rights to create a reboot which would focus on an origin story of a younger Lara Croft. In 2013 MGM signed a deal to produce the movie in partnership with GK Films, and Marti Noxon was selected to write the script a few months later.

However, in this latest report, the reboot appears to be back on track with another writer penning the script. Evan Daugherty is credited as a screenwriter for Snow White and the Huntsman, Divergent, and last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesAccording to the report, GK Films and MGM are still on board to co-finance and co-produce the film, but Warner Bros. have now joined the partnership and will be distributing the film. The report also states that the reboot is on a ‘fast track’, so it appears that there’s a strong indication from all parties for there to be significant developments in the coming months.
