Mass Effect 3 Demo Impressions & Gameplay

I have never played any of the Mass Effect’s games so when I been hearing all this buzz and news about it I wasn’t as hyped about the game as much, until the day I got the demo early.

This first part that you can see below is the introductory you get a taste of what has happened in the past and get caught up in short conversations, another key element I noticed was the connection you can get from your character. When you see the ending of this first level you will understand what I mean. Not in a while did I feel that emotional connection with a video game.

The gameplay is smooth, button reaction is fluid and the graphics are amazing especially the detail to the background. The control scheme is easy and simple nothing over complicated for a third-person shooter. Another good feature it lets you choose the mode of game you want to play from :

Action Mode, according to the demo, is “for those who want to emphasize action and combat and minimize story management. Action mode will set automatic replies in conversation and a normal difficulty”.

Story Mode is “for those who want to emphasize story immersion and minimize combat pressure. Story mode will set manually-selectable replies in conversation and a minimal combat difficulty”.

And RPG Mode is “for those who want to explore both realms of story and combat. RPG mode will set manually-selectable replies in conversation and a normal combat difficulty”.

So this also should be good for those that want to play a certain way. Once you are done with this first mission it will forward you to a few missions into the game to get a feel of more squad mates and such, which you can see below.

This demo has got me greatly interested in the game to the point that I feel like I might have missed out on Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, but feel that even if you haven’t played both like myself you are not missing out or totally clueless about the story.

For those wondering how the Kinect features are with the game, they are responsive and work as advertise, no frustration in repeating anything or having to overly say anything. Simple tone of voice seemed to work fine for me. Great job at this from the guys that worked on this part of the game does give it more involvement which in turn makes you feel more part of the story and in control. I will be looking forward to reviewing this game.

For those looking for more info on the story here is a spoiler if you dare to look.
