Killzone: Shadow Fall season pass detailed, new MP trailer

Sony’s first core exclusive for the PS4 is keeping eager next-gen adopters excited as ever. Killzone fans are no doubt about pass-out in anticipation and FPS enthusiasts looking for something different from the usual Call of Duty and Battlefield flavors have good reason to be interested in this sci-fi shooter.

In fact our very own Gator had this to say in response to the news:

This looks amazing, I won’t lie, it’s going to be good to play a non BF or CoD FPS.

Uncanny! Well there you go, ESG is officially excited for Shadow Fall! Be sure to join us on our own custom gamemode where it’ll be 10 of us verses Vyce where he has no weapons, no abilities, and 25% health. The comedy will be unforgettable!

But back to the actual news: today, Guerrilla has detailed its season pass for Shadow Fall in addition to releasing a new multiplayer trailer:

The season pass will cost $20/£15.99/€19.99 and include the following content as it becomes available:

Online co-op expansion pack
Focusing on team play and intense combat, the online co-op expansion pack adds a new co-operative game mode in which you and up to three online friends must survive against impossible odds. Fight waves upon waves of enemies in four new arena maps, featuring a unique leveling system and new unlocks.

Three online co-op map packs
Each map pack consists of two brand-new arena maps you can play in co-op mode with your friends. Please note that these arena maps will only work with the online co-op expansion pack.

Two additional multiplayer expansion packs
We’ll reveal more about these additional multiplayer expansion packs when Killzone Shadow Fall’s launch date nears. Suffice to say they’ll offer many hours of additional multiplayer thrills!

But that’s not all – if you get your Season Pass for day one of Killzone Shadow Fall, you will also receive access to an exclusive OWL combat drone skin and a unique Multiplayer Spotlight move. Take advantage of this excellent value deal to maximize your online experience!

Thankfully additional competitive multiplayer maps are going to be free, which is unusual given the commonality of $15 map packs and microtransactions. It’s refreshing to see a developer attempting to minimize the fragmentation that can occur when numerous paid DLC maps packs are released over time. Hopefully it’ll keep Shadow Fall’s online community active and invested.

So while typical season passes consist of map packs it’s interesting to see an entirely new survival co-op mode being offered. Co-op is very popular and I can see many purchasing a season pass for it alone.

I’m most intrigued about the undisclosed other two expansions, what will they contain? It’s unlikely that they will be more maps or co-op content, what else does that leave? Share your ideas below in the comments!
