Gears of War: Ultimate Edition players to receive all backwards compatible Gears of War titles free

Right before Gamescom has even begun, Microsoft has dropped some new Gears of War news…

At E3 in June, Microsoft finally confirmed the long rumoured Gears of War: Ultimate Edition which remasters the first Gears of War title for Xbox One. On the same day, they also dropped the bomb that later this year Xbox One will be able to play Xbox 360 games through backwards compatibility. Now, they’ve announced that all four Gears of War Xbox 360 titles from 1-3 and Judgement will be compatible on Xbox One later this year. Not only that, but those who play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live between August 25th and December 31st this year will receive all four games at no extra cost.

Those lucky enough to be in the Xbox Live Preview Program will be able to play Gears of War 1 (Xbox 360 backwards compatible version) as well as Shadow Complex on their Xbox One beginning today.

Gamescom takes place in Cologne, Germany this week and Microsoft will be hosting a press conference tomorrow where they’re expected to reveal more from their games lineup, including Scalebound and Quantum Break, as well as new details on upcoming console features such as the redesigned UI. Stay tuned all week for a ton of great gaming news!
