Day Z sells 172,500 copies in 24 hours

Day Z, the incredibly popular zombie survival modification spawned from 2009’s “ARMA 2: Operation Arrow Head” has finally released a stand alone alpha build for players who want early access. With a buy-in of $30 (caulked up as an early access payment for the final product), over 88,000 players purchased the title within the first 12 hours of release.

24 hours later Bohemia Interactive has released final day one sale numbers: 172,500 copies. Impressive to say the least, and if not, note that this is an alpha build that is not nearly a representation of the final product.

Still not impressed? Bohemia Interactive has pulled $5.1 million in revenue from a title that will be more of an exercise in patience and frustration than an actual solid gaming experience until further updates are made to the build.

Regardless, it’s a true testament of how a solid idea can rightfully gain support, trust and passion from a fan base that’s hearts the series has captured. Have you been playing the Day-Z alpha? Let us know!
