David Hayter too “disturbed” by Metal Gear Solid V to play it

David Hayter, formerly the longtime voice actor for Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series, doesn’t intend to play the highly-anticipated new entry.

Hayter said the following in an @Gamer interview when asked if he’ll miss the role of Solid Snake and whether he intends to experience the game:

Yeah, very much. [And] no. Why? Because it’s too disturbing for me to hear somebody else doing the voice of a character that I played for 15 years. It’s just – I don’t think I would enjoy that.

Konami and Kojima Productions announced in June that Kiefer Sutherland is taking over Snake’s role in Metal Gear Solid V.

It’s an unfortunate situation, Sutherland clearly has the ability to do a good job and perhaps Kojima strongly feels that a fresh voice actor will inject new life into MGSV.

However at the same time gamers have grown up with Hayter’s iconic gravely portrayal of Snake, to most he is the character. I’m sure many sympathize with Hayter and it remains to be seen how gamers will respond to the newly-voiced Snake in the full game.

How do you feel about the whole situation? Should Hayter have remained the voice actor for Snake? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

I’m still so curious as to why they felt the need to “make a change” to the English voice, but the Japanese voice is the same as it ever was.
